Use the distribution route that matches the installed app.
Choose the intended platform
Notes’ launch scope includes macOS, iOS, iPadOS, Android, Windows and Linux. Choose a platform manually if detection is wrong. A browser’s operating-system guess is not proof of CPU architecture.
Check the release details
A download should identify the latest verified version, release date, supported architecture, minimum OS and actual distribution destination. Read any action required in the matching Release Notes before updating.
Keep update channels separate
Directly distributed macOS builds are intended to use Sparkle. App Store builds, if distributed, follow their store’s update route. Do not try to route a store build through a direct updater. Other platforms need their own verified installation and update instructions.
Repair without losing work
For an interrupted update or startup problem, preserve local data, keys and unsent changes. Do not disable system security, ignore certificate warnings or install an unverified binary. Keep a safe copy before a recovery procedure that changes local storage.
