Local-first knowledge

Keep your files-first habits. Add the people.

If your knowledge already lives in local notes, Notes keeps that way of working and adds what files can’t do alone: live editing, discussion beside the passage and encrypted sync.

Keep the connections. Share the thinking.

Follow a source into a research note and then into the decision it informs. Link the evidence, develop the idea and let a colleague see how you got there.

Work on the same thought.

Write together, discuss the passage that needs attention and keep the answer beside the decision. Live presence and a useful exchange make collaboration more than receiving a synchronized copy.

Make room for everyone.

Your colleagues can contribute using Notes on their own devices. A selected-note invitation does not mean every participant needs a paid Team seat or the champion’s plugin setup.

Keep your tools in the picture.

Use supported local files alongside your chosen tools, then carry the work on in Notes. Check the supported access path, reconciliation and recovery before allowing an external tool to write.

Good questions

Can I bring an existing vault?

Start with a small, representative import. Check supported formats, links, attachments and rich content using the import and backup guide. No seamless migration or unchanged plugin behavior is promised.

Does everyone need to pay?

No. Personal includes live collaboration in selected notes, with free accounts for invitees. Team adds a managed shared workspace.

Is local-file access the whole product?

No. The Notes app is the center of the experience. Local files and optional agents extend an ongoing workflow; colleagues can use the shared knowledge without those tools.

Start with one note.

Download Notes and write on your own device. Invite someone when the idea is ready.

Free for local writing. No account needed.
